Entries for May 2017

Merciful Father, we ask your blessing on all we do to build a culture of life. Hear our prayers for those impacted by the death penalty. We pray for all people, that their lives and dignity as children of a loving God may be respected and protected in all stages and circumstances. We pray for victims of violence and their families, that they may experience our love and support and find comfort in your compassion and in the promise of eternal life. We pray for those on death row, that their lives may be spared, that the innocent may be freed and that the guilty may come to acknowledge their faults and seek reconcil...

Books, Books and More Books

Posted on May 30, 2017 in: General News

It is hard to believe but it is almost time to start donating books for the next St.  Matthias Book Fair that is scheduled for January 12-14, 2018.  We will begin accepting book donations on the weekend of June 4-5, 2017.  However, this year we will have a different donation process that will be easier for everyone. We have added a new feature called "Add Meaning to Your Sunday Reading" which includes a link to the Lectio Divina you can print for reflection. "Church Beliefs" will include different teachings and helpful explanations about items we value as Ca...

Some parishes hold May processions—participants sing hymns about Mary, recite the Rosary, and crown a statue of Mary with a wreath of flowers. Some people believe, mistakenly, that Catholics worship Mary. Worship is reserved to God alone. From the earliest times, however, Christians have sought Mary’s prayers and help. They ask Mary to intercede on their behalf, which is entirely appropriate given Mary’s preeminent role in salvation history. The Church teaches that Mary is the first and the greates...
